365 Day Song Challenge

Day 22 - A song from a band or artists (member(s) decease) you would have loved to have seen:

I’m Going Slightly Mad - Queen

My obvious choice would be Beatles… But you know what? Not being able to see Freddie’s amazing performances with these awesome songs I love is really hard too…

Freddie Mercury wrote this in London. Some of the lyrics were suggested by his friend Peter Straker.
The idea for this song stemmed from Freddie’s real fear of developing AIDS-related dementia. As usual, Freddie put a humorous twist on it all and made light of the whole thing. The video for this song was the second to last one Queen ever did (the last one being These Are the Days of Our Lives). It was filmed in the early part of 1991, about 9 months before Freddie’s death. Freddie never did lose his mind, and remained lucid right up until just a day before he passed when he went into a coma..
The guy in the monkey suit in the video was actually Elton John. Cool, huh?
I’m Going Slightly Mad” is the last Queen video to feature significant creative input from Mercury. Although he was already considerably ill at the time, “I’m Going Slightly Mad” features him very mobile and expressive in the final clip, as well as actively co-directing some of the video’s storyboards. This was not the case in “These Are the Days of Our Lives”, the last video Mercury ever filmed (in May 1991), where he hardly moves around at all, as his condition had deteriorated further. (Wiki and Songfacts.com)

Lyrics:

When the outside temperature rises

And the meaning is oh so clear

One thousand and one yellow daffodils

Begin to dance in front of you - oh dear

Are they trying to tell you something?

You’re missing that one final screw

You’re simply not in the pink my dear

To be honest you haven’t got a clue

I’m going slightly mad

I’m going slightly mad

It finally happened - happened

It finally happened - ooh oh

It finally happened - I’m slightly mad

Oh dear!

I’m one card short of a full deck

I’m not quite the shilling

One wave short of a shipwreck

I’m not at my usual top billing

I’m coming down with a fever

I’m really out to sea

This kettle is boiling over

I think I’m a banana tree

Oh dear, I’m going slightly mad

I’m going slightly mad

It finally happened, happened

It finally happened uh huh

It finally happened I’m slightly mad - oh dear!

I’m knitting with only one needle

Unravelling fast its true

I’m driving only three wheels these days

But my dear how about you?

I’m going slightly mad

I’m going slightly mad

It finally happened

It finally happened oh yes

It finally happened

I’m slightly mad!

Just very slightly mad!

And there you have it!
