Day 302 - A song you like that you think should be used in a ballet performance
Masquerade - The Phantom of the Opera Cast
Masquerade!
Paper faces on parade …
Masquerade!
Hide your face,
so the world will
never find you!
Masquerade!
Every face a different shade …
Masquerade!
Look around -
there’s another
mask behind you!
Flash of mauve …
Splash of puce …
Fool and king …
Ghoul and goose …
Green and black …
Queen and priest …
Trace of rouge …
Face of beast …
Faces …
Take your turn, take a ride
on the merry-go-round …
in an inhuman race …
Eye of gold …
Thigh of blue …
True is false …
Who is who …?
Curl of lip …
Swirl of gown …
Ace of hearts …
Face of clown …
Faces …
Drink it in, drink it up,
till you’ve drowned
in the light …
in the sound …
But who can name the face …?
Masquerade!
Grinning yellows,
spinning reds …
Masquerade!
Take your fill -
let the spectacle
astound you!
Masquerade!
Burning glances,
turning heads …
Masquerade!
Stop and stare
at the sea of smiles
around you!
Masquerade!
Seething shadows
breathing lies …
Masquerade!
You can fool
any friend who
ever knew you!
Masquerade!
Leering satyrs,
peering eyes …
Masquerade!
Run and hide -
but a face will
still pursue you!
What a night
What a crowd!
Makes you glad!
Makes you proud!
All the creme
de la creme!
Watching us watching them!
And all our fears
are in the past!
Six months…
Of relief!
Of delight!
Of Elysian peace!
And we can breathe at last!
No more notes!
No more ghost!
Here’s a health!
Here’s a toast:
to a prosperous year!
To the new chandelier!
And may its
splendour never fade!
Six months!
What a joy!
What a change!
What a blessed release!
And what a masquerade!
Day 235 - A song with a word, term or phrase that doesn’t make sense
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - Mary Poppins Cast (Julie Andrews)
Lyrics:
It’s…
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You’ll always sound precocious
All:
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay!
Bert:
Because I was afraid to speak
When I was just a lad
My father gave me nose a tweak
And told me I was bad
But then one day I learned a word
That saved me achin’ nose
Bert, Mary Poppins and Chorus:
The biggest word I ever heard
And this is how it goes: Oh!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You’ll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay!
Mary Poppins:
He traveled all around the world
And everywhere he went
He’d use his word and all would say
“There goes a clever gent”
Bert:
When Dukes and maharajas
Pass the time of day with me
I say me special word and then
They ask me out to tea
Bert, Mary Poppins and Chorus:
Oh..
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You’ll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay!
Mary Poppins:
So when the cat has got your tongue
There’s no need for dismay
Just summon up this word
And then you’ve got a lot to say
But better use it carefully
Or it could change your life
For exemple
One night I said it to me girl
And now me girl’s my wife!
She’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Day 191 - A song you like where actors sing in the movie
All I Ask Of You - The Phantom Of The Opera Cast
“All I Ask of You” is a song from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical version of The Phantom of the Opera. The song occurs at the end of Act I of the musical. Christine Daaé, terrified of the Phantom after a stagehand is found murdered during an opera performance, flees to the roof of the Paris Opera House with her childhood friend, Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny. He promises to love her and keep her safe from the Phantom, who is listening in on the exchange without their knowledge. Heartbroken and furious at being spurned, he swears revenge against Raoul and causes the Opera’s giant chandelier to crash to the floor. (songfacts.com)
Lyrics:
No more talk of darkness,
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I’m here, nothing can harm you
my words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom,
let daylight dry your tears.
I’m here with you, beside you,
to guard you and to guide you…
Say you love me every waking moment,
turn my head with talk of summertime…
Say you need me with you now and always…
Promise me that all you say is true
that’s all I ask of you
Let me be your shelter
let me be your light
You’re safe, No one will find you
your fears are far behind you…
All I want is freedom,
a world with no more night
and you, always beside me, to hold me and to hide me…
Then say you’ll share with me
one love, one lifetime
let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you…
anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that’s all I ask of you…
Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime…
say the word and I will follow you…
Share each day with me,
each night, each morning…
Say you love me…
You know I do…
Love me - that’s all I ask of you
Anywhere you go let me go too
Love me - that’s all I ask of you…
Day 64 - Your favorite song featured in a musical
Non, Je ne Regrette Rien - Édith Piaf
I love this song!
Lyrics:
Non ! Rien de rien
Non ! Je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien qu’on m’a fait
Ni le mal tout ça m’est bien égal !
Non ! Rien de rien
Non ! Je ne regrette rien
C’est payé, balayé, oublié
Je me fous du passé !
Avec mes souvenirs
J’ai allumé le feu
Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs
Je n’ai plus besoin d’eux !
Balayées les amours
Et tous leurs trémolos
Balayés pour toujours
Je repars à zéro
Non ! Rien de rien
Non ! Je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien, qu’on m’a fait
Ni le mal, tout ça m’est bien égal !
Non ! Rien de rien
Non ! Je ne regrette rien
Car ma vie, car mes joies
Aujourd’hui, ça commence avec toi !
Day 4 - A song you like from a movie soundtrack:
I Could Have Danced All Night - My Fair Lady Sountrack
Never watched the movie, love the song though.
“I Could Have Danced All Night” is a song from the musical My Fair Lady, with music written by Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, published in 1956. The song is sung by the musical’s heroine, Eliza Doolittle, expressing her exhilaration and excitement after an impromptu dance with her tutor Henry Higgins.
It was first performed by Julie Andrews in the original Broadway production of My Fair Lady. In the 1964 film adaptation of the musical, the song was sung by Marni Nixon, dubbing the singing voice of Audrey Hepburn, who played Eliza Doolittle.. (Wiki)
Lyrics:
I could have danced all night
I could have danced all night
And still have begged for more
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things
I’d never ever done before
I’ll never know what made it so exciting
But all at once my heart took flight
I only know when she began to dance with me
I could have danced, danced, danced, danced, danced, danced
Bed? I couldn’t go to bed
My head’s too light to try to settle down
Sleep? I couldn’t sleep tonight
Not for all the jewels in the crown!
I’ll never know what made it so exciting
But all at once my heart took flight
I only know when she began to dance with me
I could have danced, danced, danced, danced all night
Song: Mr. Cellophane
Artist: Chicago cast
This song belongs to the broadway musical “Chicago” (1975) that also had a film version (2002). The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the “celebrity criminal”. The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she reported on.
Lyrics:
If someone stood up in a crowd
And raised his voice up way out loud
And waved his arm
And shook his leg
You’d notice him
If someone in a movie show
Yelled “fire in the second row,
This whole place is a powder keg!”
You’d notice him
And even without clucking like a hen
Everyone gets noticed, now and then,
Unless, of course, that personage should be
Invisible, inconsequential me
Cellophane
Mister Cellophane
Should have been my name
Mister Cellophane
Cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I’m there
I tell ya
Cellophane
Mister Cellophane
Should have been my name
Mister Cellophane
Cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I’m there
Suppose you was a little cat
Residin’ in a person’s flat
Who fed you fish and scratched your ears
You’d notice him
Suppose you was a woman wed
And sleepin’ in a double bed beside one man for seven years
You’d notice him
A human being’s made of more than air
With all that bulk, you’re bound to see him there
Unless that human bein’ next to you
Is unimpressive, undistinquished
You know who
Should have been my name
Mister Cellophane
Cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I”m there
I tell ya
Cellophane
Mister Cellophane
Should have been my name
Mister Cellophane
Cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I’m there
Never even know I’m there
Day 26 - Movie you’re most embarrassed to say you like
Not really embarrassed, but I do like old musicals, these that people usually thinks are dull and some even don’t know like Grease, Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, etc.
Grease is a 1978 musical that tells the story of good girl Sandy and greaser Danny who fell in love over the summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance?.
IMDb: 7.0
Day 15 - Favorite play adaptation
Great music, great story, great photography, great film!
Amadeus is a 1984 period drama film directed by Miloš Forman and written by Peter Shaffer. Adapted from Shaffer’s stage play Amadeus, the story is based loosely on the lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, two composers who lived in Vienna, Austria, during the latter half of the 18th century. The film was nominated for 53 awards and received 40.
It shows the incredible story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, told in flashback mode by Antonio Salieri - now confined to an insane asylum.
IMDb: 8.4
Day 9 - Favorite musical
I just love the songs!!! And I love the play too…
The Phantom of the Opera movie was made in 2004, based on the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with the same songs, this movie tells the story of a disfigured musical genius, that hidden away in the Paris Opera House, terrorizes the opera company for the unwitting benefit of a young protégée whom he trains and loves. Even if it is not very acclaimed as a movie, for those who watched the musical and/or love the songs is a very good adaptation..
IMDb: 7.2
Song: Cruisin’
Artist: Gwyneth Paltrow & Huey Lewis (Duets cast)
This is Smokey Robinson song sung by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis in the movie Duets.
Lyrics:
Baby let’s cruise, away from here
Don’t be confused, the way is clear
and if you want it you got it forever
This is not a one night stand, baby, yeah so
Let the music take your mind, ooh
Just release and you will find
You’re gonna fly away
Glad you’re goin’ my way
I love it when we’re cruisin’ together
The music is played for love,
Cruisin’ is made for love
I love it when we’re cruisin’ together
Baby tonight belongs to us
Everything’s right, do what you must
and inch by inch we get closer and closer
To every little part of each other ooh baby, yeah So
Let the music take your mind
Just release and you will find
You’re gonna fly away
Glad you’re going my way
I love it when we’re cruisin’ together
The music is played for love,
Cruisin’ is made for love
I love it when we’re cruisin’ together
Cruise with me baby
Cruise
Baby let’s cruise
Let’s flow, let’s glide
Ooooh let’s open up, and go inside
and if you want it you got it forever
I can just stay there inside you
and love you baby,
Let the music, take your mind
Just release and you will find
You’re gonna fly (away)
Yeah, I’m glad you’re going my way
I love it, when we’re cruisin together
The music is played for love,
Cruisin’ is made for (love)
I love it, I love it, I love it
You’re gonna fly away
Yeah, glad you’re going my way
I love it when we’re cruisin’ together
(The music is played for love)
It’s love music
(Cruisin’ is made for love)
…and fade
